Traditionally, we are planning a competition for young phycologists for the best oral and best poster presentation. We invite every conference participant up to 35 years of age who is the first (or only) author and will give the presentation during the conference to take part in the competition. Your willingness to participate should be indicated in the abstract.

As announced previously, the opening ceremony of the Conference will be held at the Faculty of Biology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, in the building ‘Collegium Biologicum’, Universytetu Poznańskiego Street 6. The remaining days of the Conference will take place at Będlewo Palace (https://www.palacbedlewo.pl/en), which will provide Conference Participants with accommodation and meals, as well as social events.

Please note that it is not possible to get to Będlewo by public transport. On 3^rd June 2024, after the Opening Ceremony, Plenary Session and lunch, the organizers will provide transport from the the Faculty of Biology of UAM to Będlewo Palace. Transport will also be provided at the end of the Conference, from the Będlewo Palace to Poznań. If travelling by car, you can easily reach Będlewo from Mosina, Stęszew and the S11 expressway, heading to the coordinates of the Będlewo Palace (52.2357237, 16.7294182).

1^st announcement

We cordially invite you to participate in the 41^st edition of the International Conference of the Polish Phycological Society, which will be held from 3^rd-7^th June 2024. This year we will meet at the Faculty of Biology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, and the beautifully located Będlewo conference center.

The topic of the 2024 meeting is “Diversity and ecology of algae - spatial and temporal changes”. During the conference, we will attempt to solve the problems related to the new threats of aquatic ecosystems and look for modern methods of estimating biodiversity in the context of new challenges related to climate change. Taxonomy and ecology of algae are complementary areas of examination. Both are necessary in modern biological studies, and they possess an interface of mutual benefit to one another.

The topics of presentations include, but are not limited to:

• Algae as indicators of environmental change
• Algae troubles and prosperity: resource limitations and competition
• The composition and seasonal distribution of algae
• Diurnal and tidal patterns
• From taxonomy towards ecology
• Environment - algae relationship
• Practical application of algae

The overriding goal of the Conference is to enable the exchange of experience, the presentation of research results and good practices, and to intensify cooperation between various research centres. We hope to gather scientists, who are working on or are interested in the field of algae in various aquatic ecosystems with particular reference to climate change.
